The project The Lost State is inspired by the demise of coal mining. I, as an artist, began investigations into the details surrounding the closure of mines in the North East region. I've produced a series of largely black and brown still lives as a means of an artistic inquiry into a tragedy that is nearly impossible to reconcile. More so, however, the images from The Lost State read as an honoring tribute to an industry and its people which are greatly missed.
